Welshman Brett Johns is currently on a two fight win streak after confident wins in the UFC against Tony Gravely and most recently Montel Jackson, who many believed would out-strike Johns, but this was not the case.
`The Pikey’ made a statement in the UFC making a name for himself picking up big wins, fighting the toughest opponents and even implementing flawless technique with the second fastest calf slicer submission in the history of the sport.
Johns holds a record of 17-2 and will be looking to establish himself amongst the best in the Bellator bantamweight division and will be headhunting those who hold stand in his way.
One man that stands in his way, and is on his own mission for the belt is James Gallagher. The 23 year-old Irish fighter is known as `Stabanimal’ and believes he is the money fight for all fighters in the division.
The young Irishman believes he is the only one that matters and that everyone in the division needs him. Johns watched his last fight and made it known to Gallagher that he wasn’t impressed with his performance, trying to provoke a fight which would only serve as a stepping stone for the Welshman to prove himself in his new promotion.
With Gallagher on a four-fight win streak and recently dismantling Cal Ellenor in quick fashion, despite Ellenor’s deep knowledge and experience grappling, he is currently ranked eighth in the division and is working his way up.
Brett Johns having just signed, will most likely take on a lower ranked opponent before penetrating the top 10, but will soon be recognised as having belonged there from the beginning.
A fight between Johns and Gallagher in the future would be class, it’s already exciting thinking of its potential.
